The client wanted to remove the front lawn and to replace it with plants that are drought tolerant and visually striking.  The grass was was not being used, and required a lot of water to maintain it.  The garden was sheet mulched to keep weeds down naturally, and to help build organic matter.  We used a mixture of Drought Tolerant California Native, Australian, and South African plants for this front garden.  We installed a small Redwood fence for privacy and to add visual interest to the front yard.  This one was fun!

The clients wanted a functional space space because they like to host friends and family.  The clients are soon to be parents so they wanted fruit trees and room to garden.  A Redwood Vertical wall accentuates the Redwood bench, and makes use of an unused door space.  The Gravel Area serves as a dining space for the enjoyment of the backyard.

This backyard area was overgrown, and had not received proper attention for many years.  The homeowners had a pile of bricks that was not being used, and decided to use them instead of dumping it in a landfill.  The boulders shaping the herb spiral were reclaimed, and the redwood for the raised beds were also reclaimed.  The intention with this design was to provide a seating area in the sunny areas of the garden and to provide an inviting space to interact with the garden.  The brick patio is permeable and captures rainfall in the wet months.  We chose pollinator friendly plants and the garden is now thriving as a backyard ecosystem!
